Washington PD offers a Law Enforcement Exploring Program through Scouting America (FKA Boy Scouts of America). The program is for teens aged 14-20 who are interested in Law Enforcement as a career path. More or less, our program meets a few times a month in the evening and we teach them the ins and outs of law enforcement so they can make informed decisions.
Our program is part of the St. Louis Area Law Enforcement Exploring Association. This means our participants get exposed to other departments (Local, state, and federal) and their exploring programs. In the summer, they put on a week-long mock police academy to show explorers what the real thing is like. This has been put on for the past 30+ years and it's a huge hit with the participants.
Have them reach out to Cpl. Mindy Schmelz with WPD at mschmelz@washmo.gov and she can send out applications or drop them off at FRCC. This is open to male/female and it's not restricted to SDOW residents, out of district residents can participate provided they can make it to meetings and events.
